Bhratri Dwitiya (Bhai Dooj) is a festival of Hindu religion celebrated on the second day of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month, which is also called Yama Dwitiya. This is a festival that comes two days after Diwali, which expresses the love of a sister towards her brother and sisters wish for the well-being of their brother.
Mythological Belief
Earlier on Kartik Shukla Dwitiya, Yamuna had given food to Yamraj hospitably at her house. On that day the hellish creatures were freed from torture and were satisfied. They became free from sin and got rid of all the bondages and everyone lived here contentedly as per their wish. All of them together celebrated a great festival which brought happiness to the kingdom of Yamalok. That is why this date became famous in all three worlds by the name of Yama Dwitiya.
On the date when Yamuna served food to Yama in her house, the brother who eats the best food prepared by his sister continues to get wealth along with the best food.
