Perform the Chandra (Moon) Shanti Yagya using sacred Vedic mantras and other powerful hymns dedicated to Lord Chandra (Moon) to invoke divine blessings and planetary harmony.

In Vedic astrology, Chandra (Moon) governs the mind, intellect, imagination, emotions, sensitivity, and mental balance. When the Moon is weak or adversely placed in a horoscope, it may create emotional instability, mental stress, and other unfavorable influences. Individuals seeking to strengthen these qualities and bring greater peace, clarity, and emotional well-being into their lives are advised to perform the Chandra (Moon) Shanti Yagya. Lord Chandra is also regarded as the ruler of the human mind.

If your birth chart indicates any Chandra Dosha or unfavorable planetary influences related to the Moon, performing this sacred Shanti Yagya is highly recommended.

The ritual involves the worship of Lord Chandra through Vedic Mantras, Tantric practices, and Yagya (fire ritual). This traditional Vedic remedy is considered safe and auspicious, helping to reduce the adverse effects of the Moon while enhancing its positive blessings in your life.

Description

Let us understand the Vedic Pooja for the Moon, commonly known as Chandra Shanti Yagya or Moon Shanti Yagya.

Chandra Shanti Yagya is recommended to reduce the adverse effects of a malefic Moon in the horoscope and remove negativity. It is also performed to strengthen the positive influence of a benefic Moon and enhance peace, emotional stability, and prosperity. The Yagya generally begins on a Monday and is conducted according to the schedule determined by the learned priests. The chanting of the Vedic Moon Mantras usually takes one day to complete. The complete sequence of rituals followed during the ceremony is known as the Chandra Pooja Vidhi, which is explained below.

The most important aspect of this Yagya is the chanting of 44,000 Chandra Beej Mantras. Every other ritual performed during the Chandra Pooja revolves around these sacred chants. The ceremony begins with Sankalp (Sacred Resolution), where the chief priest, on behalf of the assisting priests, formally takes a pledge to perform the Yagya. During the Sankalp, the devotee’s name, father’s name, Gotra, the names of the assisting priests, and the duration of the Pooja are stated. It is also declared that 44,000 Chandra Beej Mantras will be chanted to pacify the malefic effects of the Moon or to strengthen its beneficial influence. Any special prayers or wishes requested by the devotee are also included in the Sankalp.

After the Sankalp is completed, the priests begin chanting the Chandra Vedic Mantras continuously until the prescribed number of chants is completed. Once the chanting concludes, a Purna Ahuti (completion ceremony) is performed. During this ritual, Lord Shiva, the members of the Shiva family, and other deities are worshipped with offerings such as flowers, fruits, sweets, halwa, incense, lamps, milk, curd, honey, pure desi ghee, sugar, and other sacred items. The chief priest prays for the devotee, stating that the Yagya has been successfully completed according to Vedic traditions and that the devotee should receive the blessings of a strong and favorable Moon while being relieved from its negative effects.

During the completion ceremony, offerings are also made to the important planets of the Navagraha. These offerings may include copper, sugar, wheat, rice, milk, oil, utensils, pulses, lentils, black gram, and other traditional items prescribed in Vedic rituals. After seeking the blessings of the deities, the ceremony proceeds to the next important ritual, the Havan (Homa).

The Havan is one of the most sacred and powerful parts of the Chandra Shanti Yagya and should always be performed by experienced and qualified Vedic priests. During this ritual, a spiritual connection is established between the devotee and the Moon through the continuous chanting of Vedic Mantras. A sacred fire is lit in the Havan Kund, and after every mantra, an offering is made into the holy fire while chanting the word “Swaha.” This process continues throughout the Havan with complete discipline and devotion. The offerings placed into the sacred fire vary according to the specific Pooja and are prepared using appropriate Havan Samagri. The priests perform all the Mantras on behalf of the devotee. After the Havan, the devotee is requested to perform Parikrama (circumambulation) around the Havan Kund. Depending on the nature of the Pooja, one, three, or seven circumambulations may be performed. This completes the Chandra Shanti Yagya.

All these rituals should be performed strictly according to the procedures prescribed in Vedic Jyotish. Any deviation from the recommended process may reduce the effectiveness of the Yagya. Along with the rituals, the devotee is also expected to observe certain spiritual disciplines during the period of the Pooja. Consumption of alcohol and smoking should be completely avoided. The devotee should maintain good conduct, stay away from violence, and follow a pure vegetarian diet until the completion of the Yagya. Physical intimacy should also be avoided during this period. Waking up early, taking a bath, offering prayers, and maintaining a sincere spiritual connection with Lord Chandra are highly recommended throughout the Yagya.

It is important to note that the Chandra Shanti Yagya can be performed either in the presence or absence of the devotee. If the devotee is unable to attend due to unavoidable circumstances, the priests perform the entire Yagya on the devotee’s behalf. A photograph of the devotee is placed during the rituals as a symbolic representation. During the Sankalp, the chief priest clearly states that the Mantras are being chanted on behalf of the devotee and prays for divine blessings. Thus, the Yagya remains equally effective whether or not the devotee is physically present.

Upon the successful completion of the 44,000 Chandra Mantra Jaap and all the prescribed Vedic rituals, the devotee may experience relief from the malefic effects of the Moon and receive the positive blessings of a strong and benefic Chandra in the horoscope.
